Gotta love the food truck movement that’s sweeping the nation right now. But how about a “food truck” that you don’t have to hunt down to get a tasty bite? Look no further…Papi’s Tacos is your spot for grab-and-go, food truck style, authentic Mexican cuisine. Papi hooked me up with a boat load of Mexican goodness when I visited the shop the other day. It’s located in what used to be The Lazy Goat Gelato Shop, but don’t worry, you can still get your frozen treats here too.
Papi uses old family recipes in his shop, managed by his son, Jorge, who also manages The Lazy Goat. I love getting to hear stories from different chefs around town, and Papi’s is one that I really enjoyed. He moved his family to the U.S. when Jorge was in grade school and has grown his love of cooking into a well-run, creative business concept.
Although the shop has seating and a fun atmosphere with hand painted interiors by Greg Ramsey, Papi’s is meant to be a take-out restaurant. If you’re on-the-go, Papi’s can deliver your order to The Lazy Goat so you can grab your meal as you roll through the round-about. And if you’re in a real hurry, try the “traveling taco” – it’s not on the menu, but is worth knowing about (see below to get the scoop).
I’m a sucker for any type of Mexican food, so Papi’s is going to be a new go-to place for my fix. Check out some of this amazing food that Papi and Jorge so generously prepared for me…but don’t take my word for it, go taste for yourself!
Carnitas: slow cooked pork, cilantro, and onions
Sope: steak, salsa, and tomato on a homemade corn tortilla. Papi’s corn tortillas are gluten free but they have flour tortillas on hand as well.
Traveling Taco: Bag-o-Fritos, ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, and cilantro. Eat it right out of the bag!
Steak Milanesa Torta: lightly breaded steak, moz, lettuce, and onion. My meal of choice right now!
Taco Al Pastor: shaved pork, onions, cilantro, and pineapple.
Follow Papi’s FB page here for daily menu features, and stop by during restaurant week for your taco fix!
That sope looks INCREDIBLE. Salivating. We have something like this where I live but it’s actually a moving taco truck that parks in the same lot every Thurs – Sun. This way, drunkards always know where to go for our late night taco fix. So clutch.
